Welcome to Dymphna's Diary

Although I am not Catholic, I find it interesting that "Dymphna" is the patron saint of those who suffer from clinical depression and other mental illnesses. Considering the purpose of this site is to offer inspiration and spiritual guidance to my readers, I felt it was only right I chose her namesake for the title.

In 2010, this site was set up to pass along personal information about how depression has affected my life and the lives of my family. Since then, it has EVOLVED. In 2011, I attempted to present posts that were INSPIRATIONAL to you, my readers. In 2012, I went even deeper with personal stories from people across the United States via touching videos, songs, and interviews. My hope was to show each of you that even when you feel that you are in a situation that no one else could understand, you are not alone. Through it all, my comments have remained to be my personal opinions and spiritual reflections. I will continue to occasionally post information that I feel is beneficial in removing the stigma of mental illness, but regardless I feel blessed to have been given this platform to spread God's love and compassion for ALL people. I wouldn't be where I am today without the strength I receive daily from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. My hope is that this blog will help you find some comfort in your life. It most certainly is helping me find comfort in mine.

I want to make it perfectly clear, though, that when I make generalizations regarding mental illness, I am NOT giving advice to anyone. I'm just passing along information that I have found helpful in my life. I'm writing about MY PERSONAL experiences and thoughts. Mental illness affects everyone differently and your situation may not be reflective of mine.

The Beauty of Mathematics...

We all strive to live life to the fullest… to get 100% out of our experience here on earth. But wouldn’t it be wonderful to get even more than that? Would it even be possible to get more than 100%?

Let’s see. If we assign points to each letter of the alphabet as follows:
A-1 B-2 C-3 D-4 E-5 F-6 G-7 H-8 I-9 J-10 K-11 L-12 M-13 N-14 O-15 P-16 Q-17 R-18 S-19 T-20 U-21 V-22 W-23 X-24 Y-25 Z-26

How much satisfaction can we achieve from our hard work?
H A R D W O R K
8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98% - That’s pretty impressive.

How fulfilled will we become from our knowledge?
K N O W L E D G E
11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96% - That sounds good.

How much does our attitude affect our experience here on earth?
A T T I T U D E
1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100% - Amazing!

But, what is the one thing that can put us over the top? What is the one thing that can make our experience here even more enriching than we can even imagine?
L O V E O F G O D
12+15+22+5+ 15+6+ 7+15+4=101% - When we have the Love of God in our hearts and in our lives, it’s incredible the way you see the world… the way you see yourself. The mathematics are there to prove it!
